Greg's Hot Picks for Cinco de Mayo!!!

BATMAN AND ROBIN #12 - Batman versus Robin continues as the Return of Bruce Wayne draws inevitably closer! The idea of the Return of Bruce Wayne still makes my flesh crawl, but Batman and Robin #11(review) was a really good issue and this one promises to be more of the same. The son of Batman (Damian) and the hero Batman raised (Dick Grayson) are pitted against each other, with the mysterious Oberon Sexton along for the ride.

PILOT SEASON STEALTH #1 – So far Top Cow’s second “Pilot Season” has been a bust, but check out this preview of Stealth then go pick up the book! Silvestri’s art looks fantastic. Kirkman is at his best when working with out of the box (or creator owned) characters like Invincible or The Walking Dead. Give it a shot!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #630 – Chris Bachalo (one of my favorite artists) and Zeb Wells bring back fan favorite: Curt Connors, the Lizard! From the looks of things Connors has hit a pretty low spot. Sounds like bad news for Dr. C and good news for the Lizard! The story started as a second feature in Amazing Spider-man #629, it’s still on the shelves, pick it up!

AVENGERS ORIGIN #2 (OF 5) – This one is Greg’s stretch pick this week. AVENGERS ORIGIN #1 came home last week on the strength of Phil Noto’s artwork and wound up being a surprisingly good re-imagining/modernization of the Avengers origin (review). Obviously set to correspond with the upcoming Heroic Age, this re-telling is entertaining and relevant with the re-launch of Steve Rogers (not an original Avenger by the way), Thor and Tony Stark.

UNCANNY X-MEN #524 – Second Coming, Chapter Six. This X-Crossover event is kicked up to high gear. The villains are well designed, they have a plan and so far it seems to be working. One X-man is critically wounded and one fan-favorite is dead. This X-Crossover is definitely more than anyone could have possibly expected or hoped for (pardon the pun).
